Travis Smith: Assult with a Deadly Drumkit

Ddrum is proud to announce the addition of Travis Smith, drummer for nu-skool thrash-metal giants Trivium, to our ever expanding roster of percussion artists. His blistering speed and technical ease have earned him legions of fans in the drumming community, and was recently featured on the cover of "DRUMMER" Magazine in the UK.

On the eve of massive touring in Europe with Metallica and Iron Maden, and the release of their third album, Travis went in search of a kit that would bring a ferocious enormity to Trivium's massive blend of melodic metal and blast-beat mayhem.

He found it with Dominion Ash. Its furious blend of musical tone and ear-splitting volume struck an instant chord with this 24-year-old blastmaster. However, Travis wanted a kit that would not only lead the way through the band's signature riffs and power-solos, but also leave a parilyzing visual impression.

With that, he came up with the concept of the Warrior Kit; and Ddrum USA took to making his vision a reality. Utilizing over 400 one-inch metal spikes, the artizans at the Custom Shop drilled holes in the points of least vibration in each shell. The chrome spikes were then installed and locked into place along the lug-line. Travis personally oversaw this process and even installed the spikes in his new 7"x14" Ash snare.

The spikes added a considerable amount of weight to each drum, and though they did nothing to rob the shells of tone, there was a noticeable increase in the volume of each drum. The size and nature of the Warrior kit may be a nightmare to Travis' tech Nick Engle, but it is an undeniable visual and sonic blitzkrieg that is outmatched only by the double-kick assault unleashed by its owner.
